FUCK LINUX!

I've been trying to edit my cv in Linux for the past 2 hours and Open Office crashes whenever I try to save anything.

Just wait till I buy my MacBook Pro. Just wait.

Aspiring College Developer,

When it comes to open source crap, it's always the user's fault.

BTW, what was the last piece of code you've published on Sourceforge?

"Open Office crashes whenever I try to save anything."

Shouldn't you be using Emacs or something.  hehe.  ;-P

Methuselah: I don't develop open source software.

Worried?  Just relax, its ONLY Linux, nothing to be afraid of.  haha.

You know, one day this will all abstract away and people will just call it a desktop and not particularly care who makes it.  Meanwhile, the servers will be Linux.

The only way I see MS keeping up is continually lowering the desktop price in the hopes of keeping up server sales, and market share.

So the strategy becomes Avalon and .net.  A good strategy *for now*.

I think in ten years we're going to look back and all be wrong. That seems to be the general trend. :)

I'm with Philo [but for different reasons] ... these threads always make me feel better about the "I'm gonna try out Linux ... naaaa, what do you want to do that for - fuck it." decisions.

Turns out my 15 years old brother upgraded my laptop from dapper drake to edgy eft, because he wanted to see how it looked like.

Little fucktard.

Go throw Windows Me on his box. That'll teach him.

Heh.  They kinda have to, if you think about it, that's where the mass of development, support, and users are, and user-friendliness is.

"I think in ten years we're going to look back and all be wrong. That seems to be the general trend. :)"

No.  I was kind of BSing above, Windows will remain king of the desktop, Linux slowly growing on the server.

But, what happens when everybody is carrying around computers in their pants pockets?  Windows may be big there too, because they just about give it away to gain marketshare, but for custom development, Linux can have a big edge.  I mean working directly with hardware manufacturers and tweaking things.  If .net doesn't do something, then people hold their breath, if Linux doesn't, you have a lot of people that will give it a college shot, if not more.

If you are just a user, then take the blue pill or whatever and you can pretend Linux doesn't even exist.  Users don't have to know as much.  If I just wanted to be a user, I would huck all my PC's into the garbage bin.  We are talking careers here, industries.

Yes, and no.  I'm just making my intentions clearer.  I've always wondered if there would be an opportunity out there to  provide *nix support for hardware, other than for a PC I suppose.

I've been close to installing it a couple of times ... then I look at the to-do list, and it slips.

If you succeed you can put "Developed by Linux" at the bottom of the CV. That would show off your credentials right there.

:-))

I'm about to get Samba setup.  Not gonna hit the hay until I see some results.

I uninstalled my Windows 'FreeChessServer' client, so expect more Linux posts from me (I have nothing holding me to Windows now).  I figure if it's anything like my job, it's all about learning just a little at a time every day, except without the job in the way.  ;-)
