interpretation of apache license?

Im interested in using some code released under this license in a closed source commercial product?  is this legal?

yep.  Note; the apache license is used for most opensource java projects, the apache server, and whatever those guys are putting out.

If you think you are breaking their license then a WHOLE lot of people are going to be in trouble.

Oops.  Check out condition 17a:
