Risk
You know what would be fun? Run an online multiplayer RTS. New players get a setup which is an average of all the other forces on the board.
That, with some other tweaks, should enable a game to continue playing with people entering and leaving for a long time (instead of having to be there at the start)

I suspect risk without the actual buzz of victory would turn out to be a pretty bornig game.
not a bad idea for a more involved strategic game though.

Yeah, not risk - something more AoEish.
Hm. If you want to really raise the bar, have a way to program actions so your side is self-sufficient when you're not signed in. Of course, the longer you go without checking on your troops, the more vulnerable they become to a glitch in the code or someone noticing a pattern and exploiting it. Signing in more often means you can tweak and change the behaviors.

A war game. That you can enter & exit any time you like. And you can write bots to keep up the fight while you're away. I think I read about something like this... Maybe I saw it on sourceforge?
