yes. because if I do, they might attack someone else.
brilliant! such a strategic maneuver needs a new name. lets call it 'Taking It Elsewhere', or TIE for short. >I guess the takeaway here is:
>Don't fuck with Israel Hezbollah came out of this smelling like roses. +1 colm
not least because Iran via Hezbollah is paying for a lot of the rebuilding. who would _you_ feel good about? the people who blew your house up or the people who paid to have it rebuilt? Israel is ruled by fucking idiots at the moment. they need to take grassroots action to help the people in Lebanon, not destroy them in a wildly untargeted attempt to bully hezbollah into retreat. Israel knows for a fact it doesn't have a hope in hell of gaining the favour of Lebanese civilians. And that was true before the war as well.
The people whose opinion of themselves Israel cares about, are sufficiently aware of the odors emanating from each participant. Nasrallah said he did the wrong thing. Lebanese are more wont to blame him. (Though it's nice that he takes responsibility and asks for forgiveness.)
"Israel knows for a fact it doesn't have a hope in hell of gaining the favour of Lebanese civilians. And that was true before the war as well. "
why not? only a relatively small % of them are (were) anti-israeli according to polls done before the war. are you _sure_ you know what you are talking about flasher? >Israel knows for a fact it doesn't have a hope in hell of
>gaining the favour of Lebanese civilians. And that was true >before the war as well. *shrug*... that's the only way they'll ever stop suicide bombings. If they tried to provide aid then that would help. If they rebuilt infrastructure that would help even more. If they actively tried to help out the Lebanese then many Lebanese would suddenly find themselves very willing to provide intelligence and help to hand over Hezbollah soldiers and agents. As it is currently, Hezbollah have the moral high ground and actually provide aid. So throwing your arms up the air and going "Israel will never have a hope in hell of gaining the favour of civilians" isn't exactly convincing. |
