Local (Vancouver) question

(I know the answer, just wondering if any of the "youngsters" around here have heard of it.)

Has anyone wondered why the street hookers are only on the right side of Seymour Street?

Because it's the side you walk down?

I'd guess there's some gap in legislation that allows them to work there with less hassle.  That or the cops on that side of the street don't shake them down for blowjobs.

Because it is a one-way street and most cars would be pulling over on the right-had side.

AHA's probably busy, and Rick wouldn't know, so...

A long time ago the hookers were all up and down Davie St, which runs roughly east-west.  Business owners and residents got fed up and kept making a big stink and some sort of bylaw was passed restricting them to "east of Seymour St." which meant they could be on the right-hand side and farther east into what was, then, more of an industrial section.

Now that all the industrial stuff is gone and most of the smaller commercial buildings have been replaced with condos, most of the hookers have moved elsewhere as well.

Wow I had no idea that there was a by-law restricting them to the east side of Seymour St.  I figured it was because it was more of a Business district West of Seymour. Interesting Trivia.
Now if only they could do something about the Pan Handlers.
