when I retire this is all im going to do all day.
mat - if you have a new mac you should take a day or two and check it out, cocoa + objective c is lotsa fun.
mmm....love cocoa programming...when I retire this is all im going to do all day.
mat - if you have a new mac you should take a day or two and check it out, cocoa + objective c is lotsa fun. If I had a clue in Objective C, I'd probably check it out.
As it stands, any OS X programming I do is likely to be in Java. you wil be able to pick up objective c syntax in a couple of hours, it looks wildly different, but once you start using it its just c/c++ all dressed up fancy like.
and the framework is just lovely. everything Ive wanted to do so far there is a clean, simple way to achieve it. I only have a tenuous grip on C++. I haven't used it in YEARS.
Anyhow, if I DO create a desktop client for the project I'm working on, it'd have to be: 1) parallel to the web client 2) cross-platform without refactoring So yeah, Java. heh. Im not suggesting you do your next paid project in it, that would be insane.
just have a play sometime :) its a beautiful thing. Apple has great tutorial: http://www.devworld.apple.com/documentation/Cocoa/Conceptual/ObjCTutorial/chapter01/chapter_1_section_1.html#//apple_ref/doc/uid/20001101-TPXREF101 . It explains how to create a Cocoa application with XCode and Interface Builder (and few lines of Objective C code).
Once you get the idea, it's a matter of discovering the features of Cocoa through the help system. Damn I love it too. If only it was possible to make a living from Mac only! "If only it was possible to make a living from Mac only!"
heh. Ive decided that I am going to. The applications that I work on in my own time are all cocoa/mac only. If Im gonna do this, Im gonna enjoy it. worst case I just have to release 5 applications instead of 1 to make a living. wSV,
My company sells a software product ported to Windows, Mac, and Linux. So far, the Mac version represents 5% of our income, Linux 5%, and Windows 90%. These ratios seem stable and have been collected over the last 2 years. Maybe your app is garbage and appeals to idiots?
Yeah muppet, it's probably what you said. Now go back to your non-garbage job.
I'll bet that most of the people who text messages to "random character sequence" in exchange for ringtones are Windows users, too.
What do you sell? I bet it changes your mouse cursor to panda bears or something. Am I close? I have this one:
http://www.wrox.com/WileyCDA/WroxTitle/productCd-047175479X.html There's a lot of power in Xcode that people don't know about. "I bet it changes your mouse cursor to panda bears or something. Am I close?"
Gosh! You're so smart that you found it from the first guess. BTW, we're looking for stupid cursors designers. Do you want to join us? Stupid as we are, we pay $10000 for every stupid cursor. |
