I finally saw The War Tapes today, something I wanted to do for my birthday. I'm very glad that I went to see it--it was an informative movie and I felt I learned a lot. I don't know that I can give it a glowing recommendation though.
If you haven't heard of it, the web site is http://thewartapes.com/trailer/
Normally I don't like to see a documentary in the theatre. I thought this one did a very good job though of showing the war through the eyes of the soldiers without trying to beat the audience over the head with an agenda.
I was very surprised at the level of cynicism from the soldiers. All three of the main narrators were firmly of the belief that the war was being used to enrich American companies, But as one of them pointed out, he couldn't fault them too much because he made his own living off of the war for 16 months. I think their cynicism about the reasons they were there are much greater than what I see every day here, possibly because they were faced daily with the contractors who charge a bundle for their services.
