Good grief. I thought I was going to learn something about what it takes to be a great football quarterback.
The article sucked, and so do the comments.
why is quarterbacking such a racially heated topic?http://digg.com/football/Why_It_s_getting_harder_to_become_a_Star_QB_in_the_NFL
Good grief. I thought I was going to learn something about what it takes to be a great football quarterback. The article sucked, and so do the comments. "I don't care if you offended. If Rush Limbaugh can say it, so can I ..."
Wow. Well, it was about the level of sports coverage that I would expect. I didn't see great amounts of depth in the article, just an editorial fluff piece.
As for being racially heated, some people are eager to project race onto any situation. Considering the financial incentives for a team to have a good quarterback, I would strongly suspect that nobody in a position to select a quarterback actually gives a shit about race. The reaction to the article on Digg is what I'm referring to with regard to the race issue.
There was a jackoff who decided to spout something he heard from Rush Limbaugh. Something that got Rush Limbaugh fired in fact.
Because his fluff article did nothing to refute actual statistics.
Because even I, non-football watcher that I am, could have written the article after an afternoon's research. Sadly, that kind of article is more popular as well as being easier to write. I made some good bank writing some editorials for technical web sites.
I don't care about anyone who uses Limbaugh as a moral metric.
The article was bunk though. The reason there are a select few great QB's now is that it is now. You are never great when you are in your prime. It's like artists. You gain fame when you're gone. "why is quarterbacking such a racially heated topic?"
I've always wondered why *anything* sports-related is ever a topic of discussion. I'll save some time and skip the article. Is this one of those QB's are white and receivers are black articles? It's kind of amazing that the stereotypes hold.
Ironically, I believe one reason they hold true is that a black QB is often so good at running and receiving that they often get moved over to those positions even if they started as a QB. But, I've seen it all from all races, it's just the preconceived notions in peoples minds that linger. |
