File extensions are essentially meaningless.
A helpful indicator, but essentially meaningless.
For a very long time, I had a domain where all the executable php files had the extension *.sex just for the Hell of it.

This is one of the few sites I've done were the .php is visible. For most sites, all the URL's are extensionless.
