Is it the US, or Israel, getting tired of waiting for the US to do it?

Wait - probably more like "Lets go ahead and attack, and then the US won't have any choice but to commit"

Well, the nice thing about pre-emptive war is that you get a war, whether anyone else was about to start one or not.

The not so nice thing about pre-emptive war is: that you get a war whether anyone else was going to start one or not.  For a recent extremely expensive and heart-rending example, see Iraq.

So, given that Iran isn't massing troops on Israel's border (and before you get insulting, yes, I KNOW they couldn't do that from Iran, they'd have to march through someone else's country to get TO the border), and unless they have hundreds of missles ready for a saturation attack on Israel, I think everyone can afford to wait until Iran actually DOES something hostile.

Shooting somebody just because they rattled their sabre is how you get pre-emptive wars.

Can Israel take Iran?

Military on military, my guess is: probably yes.

But there is the problem that Syria lies between them.

"Can Israel take Iran?"  What an ignorant question.  What would they do with it once they "took" it?  How would they be able to deal with the aftermath, of every Arab country howling for Israeli blood (more than they do now, that is).  What, are you treating this whole situation as a school-yard fight, as a dick-measuring situation?

Besides, nations don't "take" each other any more.  Iraq tried to "take" Kuwait, and were soundly slapped down for it.

In the middle-east, getting embroiled in some military adventure means both sides lose.  Let's just hope the Iranians talk a much bigger game than they're willing to play.

Besides, again, as Iraq's "Mission Accomplished!" showed, defeating a military and gaining control of an airspace, doesn't buy you very much.  Certainly Israel can't control the Iranian population.

Could they remove their ability to make nuclear weapons?  Perhaps, but there'd have to be a LOT more justification than there is now.  Justification like, say, a missle attack coming from Iran.  A REAL missle attack, not just rumors that one might be happening some time.

Dr. H. has mentioned that he has lived in Israel for some time. No surprise he can read Ivrit.
