Chicken Nuggets are a food group, right?
Sending home a pamphlet about proper nutrition, possibly escalating to a call to a social worker, would be inflammatory, but probably appropriate in the case of a routinely malnourished child.
Unilaterally feeding the child food items without the parents' permission should be considered assault.

Perhaps there wasn't enough protein/fat in her lunch and all the cafeteria had to sub were chicken nuggets.

Looks like they told her her lunch was no good, and gave her a school lunch as a replacement (and billed mom..)
Of which she ate.. 3 nuggets.
I think that says more about how inedible the school lunches are, than anything else.

The lunch they replaced as described sounded more than fine.

Wow. Way to go, Land of the free... It's crap like that that gives socialists a bad name... :P
"a turkey and cheese sandwich, a banana, apple juice and potato chips did not meet U.S. Department of Agriculture guidelines"
That is surely true. I have never heard of the school lunch program providing a normal lunch like this, it obviously doesn't meet their guidelines of needing to create price supports for ADM.

Good thing the kid wasn't allergic to anything that the state worker provided.

potato chips are no good

The USDA tried to claim potato chips were not a fresh vegetable last year, so the Senate voted a bill declaring that they are.

Kind of like when Indiana voted a state law to make pi = 3, in order to save time and simplify calculations.

How the fuck are chicken nuggets healthier than a turkey and cheese sandwich? Okay the potato chips aren't healthy at all, but a sandwich and a banana? That sounds healthier (and a lot more tasty!) than chicken nuggets (and I LOVE chicken nuggets!)

The shitstorm is trying to attack the mother as a liar.
http://myfox8.com/2012/02/15/usda-meal-was-not-replaced-mom-was-never-charged/
See, the mother received a letter saying she was a criminal and neglected her child and they were going to charge her $1.50, but they didn't actually charge her the $1.50 yet, so she is a fucking lying Republican who doesn't accept that the USDA knows best! The fucking bitch!

http://www.carolinajournal.com/exclusives/homemade-lunch-replaced-with-cafeteria-nuggets.html
> The Division of Child Development and Early Education at the Department of Health and Human Services requires all lunches served in pre-kindergarten programs - including in-home day care centers - to meet USDA guidelines. That means lunches must consist of one serving of meat, one serving of milk, one serving of grain, and two servings of fruit or vegetables, even if the lunches are brought from home.
> When home-packed lunches do not include all of the required items, child care providers must supplement them with the missing ones.
My response:
1. Fuck that. The government has no fucking business monitoring sack lunches, the stupid cunts should be shot.
2. This is such bullshit. We all know that school cafeterias do not follow these guidelines.

REAL Scientists:
http://www.usatoday.com/tech/science/2009-08-30-lactose-intolerance_N.htm
> People who are lactose intolerant can't digest the main sugar —lactose— found in milk. In normal humans, the enzyme that does so —lactase— stops being produced when the person is between two and five years old. The undigested sugars end up in the colon, where they begin to ferment, producing gas that can cause cramping, bloating, nausea, flatulence and diarrhea.
> If you're American or European it's hard to realize this, but being able to digest milk as an adult is one weird genetic adaptation.
> It's not normal. Somewhat less than 40% of people in the world retain the ability to digest lactose after childhood. The numbers are often given as close to 0% of Native Americans, 5% of Asians, 25% of African and Caribbean peoples, 50% of Mediterranean peoples and 90% of northern Europeans. Sweden has one of the world's highest percentages of lactase tolerant people.
> Being able to digest milk is so strange that scientists say we shouldn't really call lactose intolerance a disease, because that presumes it's abnormal. Instead, they call it lactase persistence, indicating what's really weird is the ability to continue to drink milk.
