Camera Cloud

Ive thought before about the israel/irag/palestinian thing that the solution to terrorism is camera clouds, thousands or hundreds of thousands of tiny camera dropped over areas, each with a tiny camera and a network that it returns the image too.

too many to blow up, too small to cause much of a problem in every day life, and a minute by minute tracking of everyone who walks past.

..if you could filter the information of course, and I bet you could....equipped with a gps locator and something to measure the exact angle of a wee thingie inside each one, the cameras could have their data filtered and matched together with relative ease.

be a damn sight cheaper than the million dollar bombs as well.

What do you mean by filter?

Take pictures of everyone and match against a database of terrorists?  That assumes you have a good database with pictures of everyone you want to capture.  Who decides who's in the database, and where do those pictures come from?

If you mean match against "terrorist behaviour," that'll never work. You can't come up with reliable rules for what counts as behaving like a terrorist.

There's a charity with a name that temporarily escapes me that supplies video cameras to Palestinians and lets them film bombings/snipings/etc. by the IDF. It's the most effective way to undermine the Israeli propaganda.

"What do you mean by filter? "

I basically mean join all the independent footage into a seamless whole and datestamp it.

you still couldn't catch people before they committed their act but, for instance, if a suicide bomber committed suicide you could easily enough track him backwards, find out who he spoke with (or, if he left town, who left town at the same time), track his life backwards, find out when he started being an insanely pissed off person, find out who he was speaking too, track their lives forward and nail the bastards.

..and so on...
