Already in love with scribd, second good y-combinator idea

Now I can be an author, there is no excuse:

The functionality.  Imagine writing a quick book and getting your name out there; also getting inside information from other authors that would normally not get published.

Yeah, zed they're as different as home videos of lipsynching and TiVo'd ripoffs of the Daily Show.

>blogs and books are two different things.

You can stick a PDF or ereader book on any site.

This site sounds dumb. It will fail quickly naturally, if it isn't sued into oblivion earlier given that much of the uploaded content will probably be, ayyyyyyeeee, pirated.

How does it instantly figure out which city I live in?  I mean, I know it has my IP.  Does it just traceroute back my ip or something?

Thanks, that's fascinating.  It can associate your phone area-code with your IP.  Not sure how it gets that info from the ISP.

So, using that service, you could detect a Nigerian credit-card user, if he/she isn't jumping off from a process on someone else's box (which sounds more like "organized" crime).
