Y'all are a bunch of wankers!

Blah's 'Attention Whore' banner

is quite stunning in its outright meanness.

kicking muppet out would apparently have been too nice, so instead they decided to implement a way of causing him ongoing, institutionalised humiliation.

when he, surprisingly enough, decided not to participate and requested that his previous posts be removed they wanted to refuse this to ensure that their petty meanness would continue to be seen for all future time.

I find it surprisingly easy to imagine similarly minded people pissing on the koran at Guanatomomoanaoma bay.

I would _love_ to know the people who were in favour of this as a punishment, anyone out there care to own up?

clearly even mark was aware of the innate pettiness and basic meanness of it, and certainly it will have left a bad taste in the mouth of most others.

way to go blah!  that punishment shows real style.

Who's this "they" that you're talking about? I don't remember the roundtable discussions on putting a banner on muppet's posts.

TAW later claimed (plausibly) that it was a temporary joke and not intended to be permanent.

Tim was among the posters who thought it should be permanent.  I can't remember any other names, and the thread is gone since it was started by me.

"TAW later claimed (plausibly) that it was a temporary joke and not intended to be permanent. "

heh.  where 'temporary joke' = 'lets humiliate muppet'

brilliant!

good to hear about the temporary/permanance thing.

so it was marks idea from go to whoa, and Tim absolutely loved it.
good to know, thanks.

Well, firstly muppet claimed that his posts had been edited, something that was clearly not the case. The banner was displayed next to his name and no alterations were made to his text whatsoever.

Secondly, muppet really is an attention whore, as evidence by all of his posts, so it was quite contrary of him to complain about something that clearly gave him lots of attention.

Thirdly, to be mean, humiliating or petty, the label would need to be an inaccurate description that falsely maligned his character. Since the label was entirely accurate, that argument falls down as well.

Without breaching the sacred oath of the forum, let me say that Mark did seem to be pursuing a temporary "punishment" to satisfy critics who were calling for something more severe.

Bullshit. Muppet wanted himself banned. And then proceeded to act like an attention whore until he got what he wanted. Now he's upset that he got what he wanted. Fuck off and die.

But I'm not banned, Peter.

Your whole world view must be crumbling.

My posts were not edited, TECHNICALLY.  The banner did not appear "beside my name".  The banner appeared across the top of each of my posts, in large font, highlighted by a thick red band that extended the full width of each post in the same way that "crazy on tap" extends across the top of this page.

"The banner was displayed next to his name and no alterations were made to his text whatsoever."

<shrug> but the banner clearly changed (and was inteneded to change) the context in which those comments would be read.

"Secondly, muppet really is an attention whore"

fascinating that you believe a subjective opinion of an individual is sufficient reason.  I personally believe you are about as intelligent as a plank of wood, but I wouldn't suggest adding a banner saying "this person is an idiot" beside every one of your posts, because I am aware that my opinion is subjective in nature and that others (presumably, although I have no actual evidence of this) are interested in your opinion without my opinions of them colouring them.

"Thirdly, to be mean, humiliating or petty, the label would need to be an inaccurate description that falsely maligned his character. "

really?  it is not sufficient that the label be merely a subjective judgment changing the context of every post he makes for an unknown period of time?

cause that seems pretty mean and petty to me.  I dont really know about humiliating of course.

OTOH I can see your point.  Describing someone accurately and truthfully is actually not in itself a bad thing.

So, for instance, if you and your entire family had been arraigned on drug charges and I stated this, I would not in fact be doing anything wrong, because it would be an accurate description that correctly described your character.  is that correct?

OK - deep breath.

I'm sorry if muppet was upset by the "attention whore" banner. I wish to note that muppet is not nor has ever been an "attention whore" and deeply regret any offence caused.

I'd further like to note that the recent threads do not demonstrate vindictiveness by anyone and that it's time we put the whole unpleasant business behind us.

Let us all move on...

Hmph. As soon as I saw it I figured Mark just threw it on there like a "kick me" sign, to be gone as soon as he noticed and threw a fit about it.

If you don't think that, you really don't know Mark.

And I still believe that if muppet could've done it, he would've. Heck, I would've done it to wSV if my blahish powers reached out here.

[btw, wSV, I'm only here because I saw this subject in the sidebar. How you doin'?]

"If you don't think that, you really don't know Mark. "

ok, so then why did mark choose not to remove it when muppet noticed and kicked up a stink?

seriously, it sounds to me as if he had every chance to prove what you say is true, but chose not to.

I am forced to assume that it was out of petty meanness, because there really is no other explanation that makes sense.

...frankly, if you dont realise mark can be a real bitch when he wants to, you really dont know mark..

"Why is it that every time I try to get to Blah I am redirected to a business of software site."

That's just the work-safe face for Blah. If it looks like fruitshow it means you have an old redirect in your cache & you should click on the "Blah" link in the sidebar.

I got rid of the original location to reduce instances I'd have to keep up to date & therefore possible hack points.
