W3C goes back to HTML?

Licensing requirements?  Ability to link to anything?  What is different about XHTML other than maybe less hassle with HTML?

All the cool stuff about XHTML isn't (directly) supported by any browser and probably isn't likely to be for a long time.  So rather than put all the eggs into one basket, they're going to go back a work on HTML.
