Why are gas prices climbing this time?

It's crazy.

Speculation, but I think we'll always see oil companies pushing the limits of what they can put in the bank, due to an unease over alternate fuel research.  Or at least, they use these efforts as an excuse to bank more money for future protection, whether or not they are truly uneasy.  This is probably how oil companies justified raking in lots and lots of cash this last year and not passing that on to the consumer by lowering gas prices.

Makes a lot of sense. They have clear the old stocks of winter grade fuel to make way for the change-over to summer fuel, therefore they put up the prices to increase demand and get rid of it more quickly. No, wait...

LOL bv.  No no no. It works the other way, the stations can't mix summer and winter grades, so demand for new gas from refiners is really low while stations run down inventory and this..pushes up prices. No, wait...

As long as gas is a commodity and commodity's can be wagered by futures traders we're screwed.De-regulation? Why would the government give up their biggest windfall? "Gas soars $2.00 a  barrel"---- There is 42 gallons in a barrel---- You do the math. After 9/11 the government gave a tax credit to anyone buying large suvs, right before gas prices went through the roof, Coincidence? Then everybody buys diesel vehicles to avoid the high cost of gas, Guess what, gas prices come back down but diesel does not, Coincidence? Every single person in this country relies on crude one way or another. If there is not an alternative to crude oil as an energy source, we will all be like flies on a glue trap. Do you honestly think that the government is not aware this train wreck is unavoidable? Right! And I can eat chocolate cake and fried twinkies and lose weight in my sleep!
