zed seeks new employment
I'm not sure I'm up to it. I'm not Bot Berlin Burned out, but I might have gotten lazy. Not too lazy to do enough work and fake work to survive in a new organization, but too lazy to endure an interview.
I work on a large C++ app connected to a database and, remarkably, not connect to the web. It is supposedly a high-performance system. We sell and then customize (extensively and continuously at enormous cost) to telecom type companies.
So my main concern, is interviewing. If you tell someone you "know C++" what's the current set of stupid C++ tricks that they ask about? My codebase is far too old to have the stl in it, should I lie and say I know the stl. Do C++ jobs still exist or has the whole world gone Java/C#/Rails/PHP/dances I don't dance?
Links to C++ interview stuff welcome. Recent experience also very much appreciated. I think I'll go cross post this on jos now.

No. Much C++ development is STL free. If you say you know STL, I can guarantee that many of your interview questions are going to be about STL stuff.
> Do C++ jobs still exist
Yes, our app is C++.

It's very telling how different the response is here compared to the response you got on JoS for this same topic.
Goes to show how far CoT has come from its original IT geek roots. Now it's too much of a trollfest.
we've hit the skids, all right

This ain't a bloody tech forum .. it's ?off remember. People answer whatever they feel like. Especially on Friday, on a cross post -- why would they answer here instead of friggin' JoS? Use your noggin brain, man.
Take your pollutionary toxico-righteousness elsewhere wankericious daddio.

JustAnotherHacker has good advice.
There are lots of C++ jobs because lots of software is written in C++ and nobody learns how to do it anymore.
I think the responses on JoS are also telling. Nobody there knows how to do anything, either. That forum has devloved into ding-dong "I wrote the ultimate java swing bingo card maker."
