CoT is dead, long live CoT
"It's very telling how different the response is here compared to the response you got on JoS for this same topic.
Goes to show how far CoT has come from its original IT geek roots. Now it's too much of a trollfest."
"BOT, why do you bother coming to this board for serious discussion? I thought you were on Blah.
Personally, I find it hard to take like 90% of what's on this board as serious. I think I'm gonna stop coming here because I don't want to be confused by whether someone is actually being serious here. harhar."

the death of Cot used to be a monthly event at beest, now, is it me, or do we get these every weekend?

It's not that CoT is dead, it's that it's not what it used to be, or perhaps was originally intended to be.

Well...we've still got Blah.

What a blimey wanker. That is serious!
If you want to go somewhere where everything is stark obvious, where there is never a sarcastic 'thank you,' or friendly 'f--- you', go. Go. Go where there is more seriousness. Nothing is ever serious here. All discussions are for play, a play's the thing! No emotions are on the line. None at all. It's all a frigging play - no king's consciences caught, no harlots cheeks beautied with plastering arts, no painted words. No hierarchies upset, no humor that doesn't fit to print. Go, be gone with you. Go where you know your stuttering place.

I like the fact I can post to CoT and get a range of reactions.
when Im feeling depressed I dont want nothing but loving support, I want to also have someone call me a lazy bastard who should stop pissing about, and someone else point out that im a dick.
When Im feeling happy it doesn't hurt to have someone being pointlessly acerbic.
If Ive got an idea its positively good to see all the reactions, from those calling me a derivative idiot to the people who think it is a good one.
its not my problem whether or not those responding believe what they are saying, its simply up to me to read the wide range of responses and decide for myself which are most appropriate.
"it's that it's not what it used to be, or perhaps was originally intended to be."
<shrug> of course its not what it used to be. no forum or mailing list I know is.
and, frankly, given that you weren't around when it was created I very much doubt that you have a clue what 'it was intended to be'*
* actually whether you were around or not, I dont believe that you have a clue what it was intended to be. you have a distinct knack for seeing the world the way you think it should be, instead of the way it is.**
** by which I mean 'your grip on reality is about as secure as my grasp on solvency, and honey..that _aint_ good'
