Even with oil there is no freaking way things could move that quick without a _lot_ of _really_,_really_ good organisation and a heap of instant cash.
it makes sense politically, a strong independent kurd state slap bang in the middle of the middle east could have some really interesting possibilities.
It comes down to this. Kurds are smart, sane and sensible people. Also, although they will say they are muslim if you ask, they aren't really.

The only problem w/ Kurdistan is that the Turks are absolutely batshit against it. The article says that there are quiet negotiations going on, but every turkish guy I know (ok, that makes a total of 3, but still...) is dead-set against anything to do w/ PKK.

I still dont believe it. before America invaded they were utterly crushed. You dont recover from that so quickly without a hell of a lot of help.
