Y'all are a bunch of wankers!

Wow, things like House MD stories happen in real life

Reference this story about a boy paralysed for five years with a condition so rare the disease was named after him, who is now regaining some movement after a doctor came up with a treatment:

I downloaded this documentary about a woman who woke up just before they were about to perform an autopsy on her - twice!

I bet they rummaged through the multivitamins at his house and figured out which key ingredient they were missing.

Since the body is capable of making L-Serine, it's not technically a vitamin since vitamins are things that you absolutely need from your diet.

It's not something you'd put in a multi anyway.

I don't think that's necessarily how vitamins are defined Mark, since your body can make vitamin D itself? Without looking it up I suspect the term is a bit vague. There are vital nutrients like iron and zinc that are essential to health but are not called vitamins.

If only there were some kind of compiled collection of informational articles on a variety of topics...  then we'd be able to look up "vitamin" and know for sure.

*shrug* I did "define:vitamin" in Google to confirm and it said something about stuff you need to get from food.

I was being unfair to Mark by derailing the thread up there, since the article nowhere suggests that L-serine is a vitamin. It is an amino acid, which is something else entirely. Mark was right to point that out.

According to various compiled collections of informational articles on a variety of topics, vitamins are indeed almost universally obtained from food or food supplements. Vitamin D is an exception to the normal case in that your body can also make it. Other nutrients like minerals are obtained from food too, but are not classified as vitamins.

LOL. Yeah, I knew I was being a pedantic bore by responding to SoP as if she was serious. I hardly expected someone else would be even more of a pedantic bore & take me seriously...
