Y'all are a bunch of wankers!

RM posts ......

"the comment system doesn't keep track of the reply chain and doesn't provide any mechanism for quoting other comments (or, at least, it doesn't appear to). This means that most comments are stand-alone, unconnected from the other comments in the supposed thread. In other words, we don't really have 'threads' so much as we have 'piles'."

That's intended -- on his post explaining the discussion board system, Joel rants about how quoting posts leads to Usenet-style line-by-line post dissection, used only to flame others.  Apparently Joel hasn't ever used a message board in the real world before.  Quoting is INDISPENSIBLE in large threads, so people actually know what the hell you're replying to.  Saying "when Bob mentioned XYZ, he should've considered blah blah blah..." works if everyone posts standalone essays but that's not how discussion boards work.  People post 10 different questions/statements in one post and there's no easy way to address them all without SOMEHOW referencing what you're replying to.  Either that, or the original post was made 30 posts ago so chances are nobody's going to remember what you're referring to unless you quote it anyhow.

Jones replies ... get an education (insert condescending remark here googler!)....

----"Quoting is INDISPENSIBLE in large threads, so people actually know what the hell you're replying to. "-----

I think you'll find your browser has a back button, and you can use Crtl+C/V to copy and paste. Somebody like you, who has developed a program to automate randomly turning on the caps key should have no problem with this.

Then again, you could have enrolled in college or high school to Eng Comp classes where you would have been taught how to reply to others' arguments without using a quote function (hint, google for "paraphrasing").

Ever wondered why MS blogs don't have a quote function?

Errr.. what?

You seem to have rambled some, there.

Why don't you pop out for a quick smoke, calm your nerves, then come back and try again?

Or you get monster chunks of repeated context down through the thread stream. I like joel's position. If you want to quote just take the smallest chunk possible and you are set.

I was actually focused on RM posting some ideas for the forum and jones replying that he lacked a high school education. dick!

+1 SoP.

I thought stephens reply was a very nicely placed insult.  lets face it, the kind of person who wants markup and auto quoting is _exactly_ the kind of person who both has an IQ less than that required to be a registered shoe cleaner _and_ has no actual experience of civilized discussion outside of bbs forums.

>> I like joel's position ... Or .. just take ... the monster chunks. I like joel's position. Repeated context ... I like joel's position. Chunks of repeated .. downstream threadsafe, down's syndrome, failsafe, safesex, rep-rep-repetition.... If you want to like joel's position, just take the smallest monster trunks. Get set to want you, want you, get you, Q.

Dear blank,

You have as much in your brain as you do in your nametag.

Ooh, Trollop, and here I LIKED "let a hundred roses bloom".  Now I find it was a hypocritical statement made by Mao to identify subversives.  I'm so sad.

That's conjecture - I'm not sure anybody really knew what he evermeant but one thing's for sure, Mao was pure Kool-Aid evil.
