Extracting audio from Real Video

Someone directed me to this site as a place where smart people can answer tech questions.

I need to create an MP3 audio file from a streaming Real Media video.  This is only a one-shot deal, and I don't really want to pay for a utility to do this.

I've spent about half an hour Googling stuff, without much to show for it.  Theoretically, Jet Audio seems like it should do the trick, but I can't get it to work. The video plays fine, but the resultingrecording is always just dead silence.  I've played with all the hardware options, but nothing seems to make a difference.

Anybody have any advice?  By the way, I'm on a Windows XP machine.

Thanks!

One of those programs that records any sound that hits the sound card should work. Just turn off the sound on AIM before you do it, ok, hun?

Stud, that's what I was asking, essentially -- about a program that records from the sound card.  Do you have suggestions?

VLC. Stream Option. It supports RTSP very well.

VLC does everything. Last week I took VLC out to dinner & it picked up the check.

Update: it never did work on that particular computer.  No matter what I tried, the sound files were always pure silence.  I had to go to another computer (a much older one, with Windows 98), and then Jet Audio worked.

Thanks for the tips.
