Alcohol Worse Than Ecstacy

A new study published in the Lancet proposes that drugs should be classified by the amount of harm that they do, rather than the sharp A, B, and C divisions in the UK Misuse of Drugs Act.

The new ranking places alcohol and tobacco in the upper half of the league table. These socially accepted drugs were judged more harmful than cannabis, and substantially more dangerous than the Class A drugs LSD, 4-methylthioamphetamine and ecstasy.

I would simply propose a new political ranking. Some function of contribution all sources (suppliers, users, mitigators, helpers) and moral hypocrisy  of supporters and that impact on votes.

There is more to dangers of drugs than the ratio between their toxicity level and their efficacious dosage level. That ratio actually has almost nothing to do with danger levels of substances historically. As is pointed out, under this scale, nutmeg is as dangerous as heroin. If you accept from that that that means nutmeg is as dangerous as heroin, you'll probably believe anything.

Nutmeg is dangerous at all? Damn, I only ever had it on eggnog. Should I have tried smoking it or something?

I knew I should have just stayed wild and never settled down so much...

That's insane. I've known alcoholics and meth addicts and I have to think that meth addicts have the rougher end... even in health.

If you eat a gigantic amount of nutmeg, it is a hallucinogen, works just like LSD. But, the amount is stupendous, you'd be very sick of nutmeg long before that.

And if you eat 7 times the amount needed to trip on, you die.

So this makes nutmeg the world's second most dangerous drug, according to the way they have decided to rank things.

My feeling here is that this is not really a useful way of ranking things.

Straw man PE.

There are plenty of harmful drugs such as arsenic or cyanide that are not even mentioned.

Even at a much less toxic level crystal meth scares are things of the past because crystal meth is not a very pleasant drug.

The health problems with Methamphetamine are from using stuff made with toxic processes, such as the Nazi method. Pharmaceutical grade Methamphetamine, which is available legally from your pharmacist with a prescription, does not have these problems.
