1. I accept that I am under the control of a higher power (Muppet).

I cant decide whether she is insane, or right

Im tending toward insane.  who would want to give some silly prick that much control over their life?

I've read the blog. It's quite well written and insightful. And sane. A death threat is a death threat no matter the medium.

Now, stfu and go code or I'll stitch yyour motherfucking ass together so you have to fart thru your urethra.

Kathy's a very insightful author, and also a fun author. She has more class than anyone else in the tech blogosphere. She's right to take the threats seriously. I hope they catch the people that did this and prosecute them to the full extent of the law.

Terror is a feeling. If she feels it (and unlike that Billionaires for Bush woman isn't nuts), she's being harassed.

I find the thought of DF ranting about his desire to vomit rather terrifying.  can I sue him for it?

Yes. But only a little. And only in the mouth.

she's right. I hope they catch whoever is and they do hard time. If that came through your letter box, it'd be a serious crime - it's no different on the net.

The one thing I wouldn't have done is described my fear in public. It's basically giving them what they want.

Through the letter box they actually have to come to your house (where they could carry out the threat). On the Net they could be giggling from 10,000 miles away with no likelihood of ever even getting close.

My thoughts exactly.

I get death threats online almost every day.  What a whiny, melodramatic, ignorant attention whore.

While I can sympathise, I think it is also symptomatic of a world where every time there's a terrorist atrocity anywhere, Americans cancel their European holidays in droves.

Altering your behavior in response to crap like this is playing into their hands.

Telling them you've done it is even sillier.

she uses her real name. It's not hard to find out where she will be talking/appearing/whatever. The threats are anonymous.

From the POV of fear, its the same.

And muppet is a pointless troll who would crap his pants purple in the same situation.

$--,

I've gotten lots of death threats, including on ?off.  They often have included personal information that I had not given out.  I have taken some seriously and with some concern, but I have never "crapped my pants purple" nor made a public spectacle of things for the benefit of the harrasser.

Making this huge spectacle of things will only gratify the person doing it.
