Damn you CEO of Ford Motor Co. DAMN YOU!

<quote>
Mulally told journalists at the New York auto show that he intervened to prevent President Bush from plugging an electrical cord into the hydrogen tank of Ford's hydrogen-electric plug-in hybrid at the White House last week. Ford wanted to give the Commander-in-Chief an actual demonstration of the innovative vehicle, so the automaker arranged for an electrical outlet to be installed on the South Lawn and ran a charging cord to the hybrid. However, as Mulally followed Bush out to the car, he noticed someone had left the cord lying at the rear of the vehicle, near the fuel tank.

"I just thought, 'Oh my goodness!' So, I started walking faster, and the President walked faster and he got to the cord before I did. I violated all the protocols. I touched the President. I grabbed his arm and I moved him up to the front," Mulally said. "I wanted the president to make sure he plugged into the electricity, not into the hydrogen This is all off the record, right?"

Well maybe they should have designed the two plugs to be differently shaped.

Anything involving volatile fuels should be idiot-proof.  And in this case, we know we're dealing with an idiot.

Clinton wouldn't have made this mistake.

Because he's a car-guy, not because he was a better president.

Because Clinton would understand that this was complicated equipment and would have asked the expert what was safe to do.  He wouldn't just bend down and grab the first shiny object that struck his fancy.

I agree with Dana. I'm sure the Ford Motor Co. guy was just protecting his company's image & not worried about what a Cheney run nation would do, but one has to wonder whether he'd go to such lengths if it was a Chrysler.

"Well maybe they should have designed the two plugs to be differently shaped. "

maybe there's a really good reason someone didn't, in this case ...

Only my fear of a Cheney-led world makes me feel at all relieved that Dubya didn't blow himself up.  It would have been a fitting end for President Doofus.

You know, in the book version of Forrest Gump he saves Chairman Mao from drowning while he's in the army, and as punishment they assign him to what's basically a suicide mission in the space program.

Maybe they could transfer this guy to the crash-test dummy division or something.
