Monday was our first official day in Disneyland (Day 1, Dana). We arrived at the Disneyland gates at 7:40am -- the lines were already long but moved very fast when the park opened at 8:00. First thing in the morning we could walk onto any ride we wanted. Just before we left I purchased RideMAX (www.ridemax.com) which generates ride schedules for you. It's a pretty amazing piece of software that contains a lot of useful information as well as being extremely accurate. I'm not going to bother listing off all the rides that we did but until about 1:00 we easily moved from ride to ride without more than a few minutes wait. The longest wait of the day was for Star Tours (25 minutes) but the clever staging areas keeps it entertaining.
We left the park in the afternoon and took a break at the hotel. After dinner, we headed back into the park to take a look at the shops and see the fireworks. The shops are amazing -- it's really a level beyond what I was expecting. All kinds of Disney themed merchandise ranging from $5 to $50,000. The prices are not unreasonable; they don't have much under $5 but anything over that doesn't seem too inflated. It is, however, just amazing to see all the various things available to buy.
The fireworks were totally amazing -- quite likely the best fireworks I've ever seen. For each land in Disneyland, they have a theme'd fireworks display set to music and sound effects. They have fire, fireworks coming all around you, lazers, and a tinkerbell flying around on a harness.
