Hmmm. I don't notice hair color
Interesting thread on how we discern faces depending on their race.
I was saying in a previous thread down below how difficult it can be for me at work with the partner firm we deal with because the girls all comb their hair exactly the same way and have the same physical build.
On multiple occasions someone has asked "oh, who were you talking to?" Me: "Um, I don't know her name". "That's ok, what does she look like? Hair, eyes?"
Me: "Um, blonde, brown, something, I don't know!"
And I notice women. I guess I really don't notice hair and eye color.
I think it's a matter of practice. With so many Chinese (from various parts of china), Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese, Malaysian, etc. here, I'm good at identifying the different groups. Better than any of my Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese, or Filipino friends... I've had Chinese people say, in all seriousness, "you white guys all look alike." And don't get me started on the half-polish-half-chinese guys...

It's not necessarily a race thing. There are several long-haired blondes of similar build at my new job, and to me, they all look alike (and I'm white!).
Actually, I have lousy facial recognition no matter which gender or race is involved. Couple of years ago at Gay Pride I met this woman "A", friend of my friend. Spent an hour talking to her, really REALLY liked her, wanted to ask her out, but her SO of 20 years had passed away a couple of months previously so my friend advised me to wait.
Last summer, my friend had a party and "A" was there, except she had changed her hair somewhat, and I spoke to her for quite a while but had no idea who she was. The light bulb finally went off, but I think she was kind of insulted.

I go by the most useless indicator ever: what clothes the person is wearing. I try hard to use other indicators, but that's the only one that sticks unless I know someone well.

I'll remember hair color, the face, and body curvature.
I don't seem to remember eye-color or clothes very well. I can have a really tough time remembering clothes or more to the point noticing them to begin with, but occasionally I do with some people, but very rarely, not sure why.
