I liked this bit:

"The fax ordering his release ... was riddled with spelling errors and had no letterhead."

But that aroused NO suspicion because "Mr Taylor said spelling mistakes are common on court documents."

Hmm, we had a school shooter neamed Rouse down in my neck of the woods. It was a good bit before it became a glamorous news event though.
