Oops, 7 Days. Hey look I don't update on weekends.

gay men here? I have a question.

Under what circumstances would you sleep with a girl?

I am wondering because the gay men (I know they were gay and I met their boyfriends) I have known have been open to having sex with me.

I just want to understand why.  I could ask them, but they aren't around. I have a feeling that "conquering" the opposite sex is still an issue for them, even if they aren't really all that interested in the sex.  I also think that my being gay/bi has a lot to do with erasing their fears about me falling in love with them/becoming a burden.

And no, Dan Denman, I don't have a mustache.

I would expect that even when you are gay, spreading your genes would still be something you would instinctively want to do?

All the gay men I've ever met have claimed not.

Since gay men will have sex with anyone, there is no reason to go to the gym and work out and look good and be fashionable and cultured and pleasant conversationalists. A hole is a hole is a hole.

No, gay men will have sex with anyone who's attractive.  Thus those things you call out are still necessary.

Sheesh.

Although I have to wonder why anyone would lie about being gay.

What's the name of the rhetorical device where you take someone else's statement as an implicit assumption, make another statement derived directly from that assumption -- that's obviously if sarcastically false, and wait for the audience to get the silliness of the original assumption?

It's not argumentum ad absurdum, because it's more ironic than that.

I don't think there's a name for it, but ironic argumentum ad absurdum would probably suffice.

Men have sex with anyone doesn't imply men have no preference.

IMO there are a lot of men who basically define themselves as "straight" but will sleep with men sometimes, but men who openly define themselves as "gay" rarely sleep with women once they've come out.

This is purely based on the people I know, which admittedly is a very small segment of the population.

My gay male friend (well, one of them) tells me that when he's frequented the rest stops along the highway ("pickle parks", lol), most of the men he meets there tell him that they're married (to women).  And usually the wives have no idea.

that is NOT a safe activity.

I often wonder if the rampant promiscuity in gay male culture a result of the inability to legally marry, or is it just "boys will be boys"

It's "boys will be boys", definitely.  Straight men would do the same if women would put out more, IMHO.

I back that theory up with the fact that lesbians, who are equally unable to marry, do not engage in this behavior as a rule.

You know the old joke (famous in the gay community):

What does a lesbian bring on the second date?
A U-Haul.

What does a gay man bring on the second date?
What second date?

bummer that. Still a good arguement, even if mostly false, for gay marriage??? maybe?

at any rate, I don't think the original question is just a gay issue. Given the right environment, settings and attitude, I think one of two people involved in a hook up could end up willfully acting out on impulses not necessarily aligned with where they identify themselves sexually.

I dunno if anyone is a stranger to the Kinsey Scale:

I agree. There are a lot of hot lesbians I've seen on various internet sites, and I sure would like to get to know them better. I don't even mind that they are lesbian.

Many gay men have convinced a straight friend, with the help of alcohol, to have sex with them. Straight men are considered big game in the gay community.

Uhh... don't ask how I know.

The moral of the story is that a true slut meets the call of any challenge.

"My straight friend once said, “If you suck a dick you are gay, but if you get your dick sucked by a gay, you are OK.” Assure your dude that this is true. Most people will try anything once. Parts is parts, after all."

Bingo.

Two things here...

Evolutionary pressures drive males to attempt sex with just about anything because the investment of resources is low and they only require one successful outcome in a lifetime.

A common ploy by men (who are in the know) is to feign gayness because it gets past a woman's defences (including other men who may be around her at the time)
