Fuck.
Republicans work hard for the black voteTom Tancredo at the NAACP convention:
http://info.detnews.com/pix/photogalleries/newsgallery/12072007_prescandidates/index12.htm Fuck. Yeah exactly. Made me sick to my stomach. I really doubt they would have put all those podiums out if the candidates hadn't suggested they might be coming. I can totally imagine being in that audience and thinking "Fuck, well that's it then."
The appropriate reaction I think is to quote Kayne West: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zIUzLpO1kxI fuck'em, then.
Yep, this goes back to Goldwater, who said Republicans should "go hunting where the ducks are", back in the 60s.

Thing that gets me is that, there are really only two major parties. So by the republicans not really caring about the minority vote (maybe a little more so the jewish, spanish vote), it really does force the democrats to compete for black vote either. They know they have a lock on them. So in theory, the democrats could have not shown up too, NAACP is going to vote for a democrat anyway. That is probably why JC Watts is going to be pretty busy in the coming months. He seems to be the other true republican , black supporter. And I think the republican chairman is black too, not as vocal. You're right about the Dems not even trying since it's locked in. It really sucks since the Republican party was founded by Lincoln as the anti-slavery party, right? It's obviously strayed from its roots. That said, I found Bush's record on this, while imperfect, to still be one of the best in history with the very high level cabinet positions and not just token positions going to blacks and hispanics.
Watts is very cool and follows the beat of his own drum. What do you think he will be doing? Is he going to throw his hat in the ring and run?

No, he won't run. I think he is threw with politics and just getting a bunch of money through his speaking, religious gigs. "...they said that I had sold out and Uncle Tom. And I said well, they deserve to have that view. But I have my thoughts. And I think they're race-hustling poverty pimps."
J.C. Watts, Jr. speaking on Hannity and Colmes about his refusal to join the Congressional Black Caucus. |
