well, i got outbid by 1 cent on an old Harmon Kardon amp, in the last second. but then I picked up a nice quality analogue pioneer tuner for ... 16 euros! nice score. And it's only a half hour drive away.

Some of the old Pioneer receivers were excellent. Replace the output transistors with modern ones, and you can extend their lives.
Sony used to be really good, now it's borderline crap. I think they just cheapened their designs over the years to where their amp sections just won't drive speakers with any authority anymore.

yeah, that's why I homed in on this one. It's not top of the range (the TX9500 go for $$$ now) but I read around the subject and saw that the 7500 is not far off as good. I'll see how she does. You have any info on which transistors have to be changed, and what the symptoms are for when that is needed?
at any rate, I'm delighted to get it at that price. Looks in good nick, let's hope it is.
