Someone had to say it.
they dared me toUm, eww.
Isn't it possible to have a Public Service Announcement to encourage people to read, brush their teeth, wear deoderant, without profanity? What, without profanity, it isn't "serious"? Immortal Technique says it better than that, braaap
it's not the profanity as much as the piling of stereotypes that takes this out of useful into hurtful.
not reading a book is not a stereotype by itself, but about half way thru the video piles up another half dozen things and becomes nasty (the BO segment is especially objectionable, as people from outside one's ethnic group always smell a little different). Nah, I was in the US Navy, once, and I know that putting the F-word every other word tends to reduce everything to a vanilla blandness. When EVERYTHING is so f-ing important, nothing is.
There's a long back and forth on the link page about the video. Suffice it to say for those who don't want to read all the posts, the video was made by D-mite(http://www.notarapper.com/) who has spent the last 20 years trying various approaches to saying 'read a book'. I suppose being polite about it hasn't paid off as well as he'd liked, hence the crunk.
Im stuck on the blog title Assimilated Negro. That's hilarious.

What does he say? The reason I ask is because I had the same idea myself.
I was giving a young Peruvian lad a ride home once and I thought I'd play some Immortal Technique for him (they're both from Peru, maybe this would resonate with him a bit). He expressed interest in it so I popped out the discs (Revolutionary Volumes 1 and 2) and said they were his to keep. I ran into him a few weeks later and asked him about what he thought and he said it was nice. And that's it. The 19 year old was able to hear the words but not understand their meaning. It just sounded like white noise to him. It's like handing someone a book that really opened up your mind and all they see is blank white pages. |
