Public parks are always full
What's the deal with that?
Either there's an enormous public demand for parks that goes chronically under-supplied, or creating parks invites new people to fill them. Either case is a good argument for building more parks.
So what's the freaking holdup?

parks are free.
if you gave away free mcdonald's value meals there would be huge demand for them too.
if people valued parks so much maybe they would spend money on parks instead of sports stadiums, movie theaters, cafes, and parking lots?

They cost about $34/year.

yeah. I was at the park today. It was pretty populated with Mexicans playing soccer and Indians and bee-hive Muslims.
So what's the problem?
You want to be given more free parks? Cheap bastard!

There's a shortage of parks. The acres per thousand residents ratio has been going down for 20 years now. The justification has been that parks attract gangs, drug users and the homeless. So they build no parks. So kids have nothing to do but either stay at home and play video games or join a gang and deal drugs, just not at a park. In reality, the real reason parks are not built is developers want to use every lot for houses and so pay off city planning department officials to be allowed not to set aside land for parks as is required by their planning rules.
July 21st, 2007 11:24pm
the justification is developers make money selling houses. I guess the houses near parks don't sell at enough premium to encourage developers to build parks instead of more homes?

What's a bee-hive Muslim?

Muslims who wear beehive outfits.
People who wear turbans are not Muslims, they are Sikhs.

On a beautiful, not too humid summer day there are lots of people in a park? How insightful. What about 3am on January 15th? How full was it then?
How many people were there in the park? More densely packed than a beach?

" If you meant burqa, why didn't you say when asked the first time? "
What is up your ass bon v?

Where did you learn this?

You're the one calling them free. I'd pay the parks department 4x as much per year if it meant 4x as much park.
July 22nd, 2007 12:14pm
"What is up your ass bon v?"
sharkfish wrote this, entirely without provocation: "kiss my black ass, then Google you piece of shit," and you ask *me* what is up *my* ass?
July 22nd, 2007 12:58pm
She said beehive and she said burka. Turban was someone else. And anyway lots of folks wear a turban from time to time. I know you're big on being RIGHT and this was a chance, but let it go man. Let it go. You come off as really high strung. This isn't a Cot is mean thing.

> I'd pay the parks department 4x as much per year if it meant 4x as much park.
You pay for park access now?
I'm guessing most of the cost is subsidize so that 4x fee would mean barely a dent in the park's budget.

This is why bon vivant voted me off the island and prefers Blah.
Here on CoT, the crowd doesn't let you get away with bullshit as easily.
Sorry bon. Go back to Blah in your protected area where you can condescend on people who ask for it and won't fight back.
Look, let's clarify this for you:
"What's a bee-hive Muslim?" - me
"turbin" - mod parent up!!!!
"People who wear turbans are not Muslims, they are Sikhs." - me
"Before you correct me, kiss my black ass, then Google you piece of shit." - sharkfish
So are you "mod parent up!!!!" now? You just saw an opportunity to be rude and took it. Your language was offensive and totally uncalled for. If you feel unaccepted it is because you strike out at the very people who love you.
July 22nd, 2007 3:50pm
you love her? after that?
July 22nd, 2007 5:15pm
There are Sikhs, Hindus and Muslims, and who knows what others with turbans.
From the Sahel and the Sahara to Northern India to Indonesia.
It is good protection when you are all day out in the heat.
And it is a nice amount of cloth that can come handy in all kinds of situations.
The way global warming's a happening, we'll all be need some head covering soon.

Nobody goes to parks anymore, they're too crowded.
(What Yogi Berra would have said).
