Sanding our assholes with 150 grit. Slowly. Lovingly.

My throat is full of ulcers

I can't swallow.

Couldn't have anything to do with the Kronos support phone (I'm up on the rotation) ringing every hour all weekend.

I need a new job.  Anyone know where I can make $33/hr scooping ice cream?

Yes, but you'd have to be on your feet all day.  And the weather sucks in Iraq.

you could try crushed raw garlic and honey mix. it works pretty well on sore throats.

Maybe.

This is a Crohn's sore throat, though.  It's a little different.

That makes your other orifices act weird also?

Crohn's goes from the anus to the lips. It can be severely nasty. I'm lucky in that I've only got a mild case that seems to be controlled with Asacol. How 'bout you Muppet, what drugs you on?

Another formulation of asacol called Lialda.  I take a low dose because my condition reacts badly to too much, and I take heavy duty antihistamines to counteract some of the allergic reaction (severe excema) that I get from it.

I was on 6mp/Imuran but it gave me pancreatitis and I was hospitalized for almost two weeks.

My daughter can't take Asacol because it causes an intense flare-up of her condition that requires steroids to control.

Because I react badly to all of the meds, I'm frequently on Prednisone.  The most recently was about 2 years ago, when I was on it for 16 months.  I'm still all bloated and fucked up from it.

Plus, prednisone does wonders for your personality. Me, it makes me manic and unable to sleep without massive sleeping pill usage.

I've heard that Crohn's was from a bacterial infection from the bug that cause's John's disease in cattle. Don't know how that research has gone.

Your daughter has it too? My sympathies.

There's a few theories on Crohn's.  The bacterial thing doesn't fly with me because it's genetic.  Unless the infection causes mutation.  I haven't read that study recently so I don't remember all the details, though.

Prednisone makes me jump at shadows, totally unable to sleep, very paranoid, and completely obnoxious to be around as a result.  It's great stuff.

Another theory is that it's at least partially caused by fructose intolerance. Have you ever tried going on Atkin's or some other low low carb diet?

I must have it too, I'm not tolerant of fruitcakes at all.

Oh, wait. Fructose. Fergedit.

I eat very few sweets or sweetened beverages.  I've never tried cutting them out completely, but I'm sure I've gone at least one week with no fructose before.

Dunno, might be something to try.  That and wheat.

I went and got a rootbeer float for lunch because the cold ice cream makes my throat feel less like fire.  :P

"very paranoid, and completely obnoxious to be around as a result."

How can you tell the difference?

I have a friend who had all sorts of ulcers in her mouth, gums mostly.

She went through a year of hell, as doctors tried to figure out what it was, and lost stones in weight.  Cancer? Some kind of tropical disease? A mouth problem? Infection? Virus? Liver problem? Kidney problem?

Only after a year, they found the cause  - that had somehow been missed: an ulcer in the intestine.

If I had less of a tolerance for pain I might lose more weight.

Only time I have trouble w/ the throat is unrelated to my Crohns, and more related to my alcoholism. Turns out $6/liter rum fucks up my throat, Captain isn't as bad, and Irish whiskey is apparently high-enough quality to not be aproblem. Also taking Prilosec which helps. My throat problems are basically a horrible cough that sometimes triggers my gag reflex. Luckily I'm currently at a point where it's just a nasty cough every once in awhile as opposed to a fit of coughing and then puking. Also taking Imuran and Pentasa (wish there was a generic for that one, $400/month sucks). And the anemia is still where it was....working w/ my PA to try to figure out what will work. God willing I can avoid Remicade.

So you have Crohn's and you're an alcoholic and you're more focused on what combination of drugs to take than how to stop drinking?

Classic.  If you're trying to wind me up, I couldn't care less.  :)
