Were the events in the Bible fictitious not just the miracles...

I just read an article not long ago that confirmed the existence of some king mentioned in the bible.
I don't think it's a completely accurate history but I also don't believe you can simply discount the historical content as merely fiction.
(This doesn't seem terribly controversial)
