Nobody likes to be called a dummy by a dummy.

the trouble with the media today

here is an interesting article about bush wanting to ratify an international treaty:

http://www.boston.com/news/nation/washington/articles/2007/07/29/bush_allies_slam_his_support_of_maritime_treaty/

the back story is that there is currently a claim-rush happening between russia, canada, holland, america and maybe a couple of others over some territory previously deemed worthless.

the closest this story comes to acknowledging that is:

"Supporters also tout the treaty's economic benefits. For example, only members are able to gain international recognition for claims to undersea oil, gas, and mineral deposits on the continental shelf beyond 200 miles from their shore."

ignorance on behalf of the reporter? deliberate neglect of the context?  either way, its indicative.
