I'm not holding my breath. Ireland has been restive for centuries and there's no reason to believe that won't be true going forward. Hopefully we can get a few decades of peace before the trouble flares up again.

Helps a lot if the departing troops were

[1] part of the same culture
[2] the other side in a civil war

There was no clear victor except sanity.
