A bunch of cunts, mostly in the Australian sense. Except that one guy.

Playlists on MP3 player

Hi, I have a Sanyo Yepp Mp3 player. It's like an Ipod Shuffle, except it has a LCD, FM, and a standard battery.

Anyway, I can't get to play whole albums in track order. For example, it sucks to listen to Dark Side of the Moon in some random order.

It seems to play them in the order they get copied to it. There is a playlist feature, but I can't figure it out. I tried putting Winamp's playlist on it, but it doesn't recognize the file.

Anyone got one of these and knows how to do it?

Otherwise, I'm thinking of trying to take the albums worth or individual MP3 and stiching them into one file. Does anyone know of a good (free?) tool to do this with? There are a million hits for MP3 utils on Google.

Miles, the specifics of this are different for each MP3 player. My archos played in order based on filenames, which confounded me when I used my girlfriend's iPod, which uses ID3 tags to determine track order using the "Track #" tag.

No help for your specific problem beyond RTFM.

Considering Yepp is a Samsung brand... I had a Yepp MP3-CD player, I do believe it plays based on filenames. So set your CDex or whatever to put the track number at the beginning of the name. So you'd end up with filenames like 03-PinkFloyd-DSOTM-TheWall.mp3 or whatever. Then, set to play in order.

Right. I meant Samsung.

I do have the track number in the filename, but I think it's ordering them based on the order they were copied.

Anyway, I think I know how to do it now. I have to copy it in the right order, which means sorting them by track number on the PC and then copying them by selecting the files, not the directory.

I name my mp3s like this:
<artist>_<album>_[disc_]<track>_<title>.mp3

It seems to prevent out-of-order playing. Or at least sorts pretty in the directory.

Eh. I have nothing but contempt for Yepps, after living with one.

It's simple things like this that just spell it out why Apple and the iPod are so successful. The competition flails around adding useless features, but fail to get the basics right.
