Yeah, I'm just posting this to start a flame war. But it's true :)
Free booze makes homeless healthierhttp://today.reuters.com/news/newsArticle.aspx?type=oddlyEnoughNews&storyID=2006-01-04T180740Z_01_EIC465244_RTRUKOC_0_US-HOMELESS.xml&archived=False
Yeah, I'm just posting this to start a flame war. But it's true :) "were allowed up to 15 glasses of wine or sherry a day -- a glass an hour from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m"
So, they weren't allowed to get drunk, and they were given the most frou frou drinks in existance? I'm not sure which kept them out of trouble - them turning into pussies, or having to hang around the shelter to get their free booze. My first thought was of a Hogarth print.
However having read the article it's more about giving them a maintenance dose so they can be treated for their other issues. Seems sensible enough... Also it means that rather than spending what little money they do acquire on alcohol, they could put it towards food, etc.
We could give them the food, and they could spend what little they do make on alcohol....
I give them smiles, they seem to be appreciated as well as you could expect.
