CoT: definitely not going to bomb a plane

I accidently went out with a 16 yr old.

For a month and half. And I'm 28. Girls look older than they are.

Congratulations!?

It could be worse. I debate the truthfulness, but I heard a caller to a radio show tell a tale along the lines of the following...

'When I was a teenager, at fourteen, my stepmother seduced me. Her and my father divorced shortly afterwards. I am now thirty-four. For the past two years I have been dating a woman signifcantly younger than myself. Last night we were discussing our parents and I came to the realization that she was my former stepmother's child. Upon confirming this with her mother, I also discovered that I was her father.'

Eeek.

I'm sure that's not gonna happen to me. No pregnancies here. Thank goodness for birth control pills.

obviously the bouncers over here don't check girls ID's if they're "hot". You would think if you meet a girl at a club, she'd be legal.

As Simon said, it's highly peculiar that it's not legal to go out with a 16 year old. Bordering on the weird in fact.

(Yes, I live in California, and I found out that the principal reason for setting the age of consent at 18 here is because the state was concerned about the high cost of the medical bills the state has to foot for teenage pregnancies. Make it a felony to get a teenager pregnant, and cut the state's social care costs. Go figure.)

You should have suspected something when she never offered to buy you a drink. Also, what's her name and number, she obviously likes older guys??? j/k

"Make it a felony to get a teenager pregnant, and cut the state's social care costs."

That was the same justification the Virginia legislature used to raise the age of consent from 13 to 18. Seems kinda strange to put the burden on the person who's not really in a position to be aware of the problem.

(16 year old girl tells 19 year old guy she's 18; guy gets her pregnant; guy goes to jail - who really did the unethical thing here?)

Philo,

Who cares what the laws/rules say as long as children are protected and their mothers "feel good" about having changed things... ;-) ;-)

Women vote in larger numbers than men. Elected officials tend to pay attention (sometimes!) to what their constituency wants. Common sense seems to have no place in modern politics.

If we (males) find enough reason to call "BS" for enough reasons, maybe we'll start voting too and get some common sense back into the process.

Wait-a-minit...Sorry, I was thinking about Bizarro World ;-)

Personally, I think:

1. Sex should require a authenticated (ie notarized) contract between the 2 parties.

2. If there is physical evidence of sex, but no contract, and if the female claims she did not consent, then the male is guilty of rape (no trial required).

That's what I think.

I never really understood the Rob Lowe sex scandal when he got busted with a couple of underage girls. he met them in a bar. Shouldn't that be a valid defense, since bars are supposed to permit only adults?

Rob Lowe only got busted for 1 underage girl - the other was legal. The real bonus scandal was the 3way they had, and that, IIRC, it was caught on tape.

"Girls look older than they are."

Ya right, I'm 26, and I often think the high schoolers look like they should be in grade school.

My theory is that people are pretty good at telling the age of those that are within 5 years of their own age. Everybody more than 5 years younger that you is just "younger" and everybody more than 5 years older than you is just "older".

So, it's not that "Girls look older than they are." It's that you decided that "younger" means legal anyway.

That five year thing works for about any age group. Kids can tell you the age of their peers; I'm guessing that every case of a 16 year old girl and a 19 year old guy having sex was proceeded by the follow conversation:

Girl: How old do you think I am?
Guy: 16?
Girl: No I'm 18.
Guy: <She is hot. I want to "do" her> Wow! That's great, you look younger than you are.

Wouldn't work. 18 year olds, even those who are 16, do _not_ want to be told that they look like they should be home by 9 because they have to go to school tomorrow.

Honestly, you can't tell if some girls are 16 or 18 or even 20. Some girls just develop real early, and others real late. And man, was she great! I found out that she really wasn't of age when she left her grade 10 math notebook in my car.
