Sorry. It's making people unhappy. Find another place to chat.
Which people? I accept it's your place to do with as you please, but "making people unhappy" is both a vague and lame reason.
I didnt complain. I'm no freak.
Maybe some christians are freak?

I doubt it. The sidebar's been cleared. That's the first indication that something's not good.
It'd be nice if it could close later, say tomorrow afternoon.

I'd be a nice of we could get a copy of the database. I've always wanted to be able to visit old posts (which was always a bit difficult on this site)

'Tis Joel's haus, and it's always been an aberrant forum (since the nascent days of political discussion).
Ultimately I think it has been expected for time eternal.
I realize this is Joel's property we are squatting in.
I realize I haven't been a Joel cheerleader.
But the discussion of Joel vs. Paul Graham made me realize how utterly business-y Joel is.
I should have seen this coming. It makes perfect sense that any negative publicity would mean we are out, period.
While it is a logical conclusion, it still bothers me.
I'm sad to see ?off go.
Thanks anyway, Joel. Sigh.

To close it to new posts is one thing, but to delete the database would be a terrible loss.

Deleting the database would also permanently lose the last posts Chris made online, which for some reason seems even more tragic than it ought to... If Joel can provide the schema for FogBugz, could we not attempt to import it into wherever we end up?

Or you could just buy a copy, its only like $150.

...or we could hope it crashes again in a minute, as that pretty much reveals the innards. :)
