Only very vaguely relevant, but I recall reading somewhere that the stuff they burn in the thing that they swing around in Catholic churches (I'm not overly familiar with the technical terms :) has compounds related to THC in it and that it helps to induce a "religious" state of mind...

For a Catholic Mass (or Orthodox), the incense is placed in a thurible and that is inside the censer which is then swung in a rhythm depending upon which part of the Mass its used.

The Disciples are frequently identified as being high on something if it isn't cannibis its mushrooms. The same lack of evidence for any of it is usually enough to convince someone of its existence.
