There's some weird people out there

Today I got two emails in response to some long forgotten post in the main JOS forum from about a month ago. Both emails were basically elaborate restatements of the answer that I gave in that thread and contained neither any new information, nor any attempt to correct what I said, nor any question requesting an answer. What was the point? Was it somehow just an attempt at self-validation by the sender?

Do other people get such weird emails from lurkers?

I get a few once in a while... it's weird, I won't get any for months and then I'll get 3 in 2 days and then nothing again for months.

I get requests for personal advice. I generally ignore them.

Maybe because you don't link to your e-mail here. :)

Incidentally, I don't get any e-mail from JOS either.

I've gotten a few email replies from this forum in the past. About half of these were thank yous and the other half were the oddball semi-related but nonsensical replies that you described. I never figured out the point of these and didn't reply because, besides not knowing how to reply, I suspected that they might've been an email address phishing scheme.

Interestingly, I've received no email from this forum since Joel switched to the new version. My guess is this is because the mail icon is too subtle or because of better spam blocking or a combination of both.

I still get people asking me to invite them into Orkut. And evey other Wieczorek in the world wants me in their personal network.

I've gotten a few. Most of them are offers to sell me something that would solve a specific IT problem I had.
