I am geek
Im having a *good* day.
mums taken the girls out, its quiet and by christ Im *coding*.
creating classes, building structures, making design decisions in a flash. writing code that works first time. rebuilding older structures that were weak.
Im *productive*
its incredible, I haven't had a day this good for weeks.
this afternoon I think Ill write a compiler during my afternoon break.

Getting in the flow with a project of your own choosing is indeed a high.
I especially like when I write infrastructure in a new project, or refactor an old one, situations where you might find yourself coding for hours without having anything to test really.
But then it all comes together and you get a few compile time errors. You start to worry, is this new structure a big mess? But you fix the dropped ; and the missing ) and compile again, and it works. Just like you imagined it.
And you feel like a fucking ninja.
Hard on and goosebumps.

JHC, luck you.

I've only had that a very few times. Write code. Compiles first time. No apparent bugs. That was enough to distract me and get me out of whatever "zone" I was in, right there.

More commonly is to have that feeling for an entire day, come in the next morning all bright eyed and bushy tailed to discover that there was some fundamental misunderstanding in an assumption and the entire edifice is built upon sand.
> built upon sand ...
back into the zone with a couple of bags of cement and a hose (flex pipe in your instance) ... fixed :)

I've resolved not to feel old, and I prefer drinking bitter to being it.
