I keep hearing about this Amazon thing. Maybe some day I will try it.

The happiest

..country is Norway.

Regarding US, which slips in the rank:
"“We’re becoming more and more mean spirited. And our government is becoming more and more corrupt. And inequality is rising,” Sachs said, citing research and analysis he conducted on America’s declining happiness for the report. “It’s a long-term trend and conditions are getting worse.”

From outsider point of view, it seems that way.

What does that mean: being the happiest?

Hard to define, but I doubt that asking people that question will give you the best answer.

A nation of grumpy pessimists that tell you all day what a shit life they have can actually be happy in a way, I think.

And in the countries where everybody says they are so happy, suicide numbers are very high.

For years Norway's had the highest per-capita income in the world, due to their oil field revenue.

So money buys happiness.

I wonder when they run out if they become the most unhappy.

"Venezuela and the Central African Republic slipped the most over the past decade."

The two nations where the economy went to shit the most. So... money.

"Nicaragua and Latvia increased the most."

Nicaragua's ended their decades long conflict, both by exporting the violent people to the US as MS-13 gang members, and enjoying the money sent back to them from the gang. Latvia's undergone a huge economic boom, banned the draft, and finally shaken off the culture of sovietism.

Unlike the UK, Norway has invested their oil money:

Scandanavians and the Swiss don't look very happy whenever you see them.
Maybe they just feel obliged to say it on account of everyone telling them they have it good?

Look at the suicide rates:

https://jakubmarian.com/suicide-rates-by-country-in-europe/

Icelanders claim to be real happy as do the Finns and yet they have a lot of suicides. Even the rest of the 'happy' countries are higher than the supposedly more miserable countries like Greece.

That's because the unhappy ones kill themselves off, raising the average 'happy' level.  Sneaky.
