Oops, 7 Days. Hey look I don't update on weekends.

4 Brothers

John Singleton is such a cad (director of the film)

Opening line by the store robbers when shooting the "Osama" behind the counter: "Black people don't get what they want in this country why should you?!" BLAMMM!

http://imdb.com/title/tt0430105/

I'm still watching.

...

So really now: I think there is a myth that blacks are lazy thieves while all the other minorities are hard working, etc.

What would blacks do if they had a source of funding/credit for shops and such? Are blacks really on equal footing with people who come here from other countries? My gut says yes, but I don't have proof.

My gut says films make us feel better about our place in life, and therefore perpetuate such myths to make more money.

I think we should shoot John Singleton, Spike Lee, etc. There's more middle-class blacks than ever. These filmmakers do nothing to get rid of the myths.

If you are on s shooting spree, should Tarantino. The motherfucker is a self-righteous, arrogant prick with crappy movies.

Who are you, and have you hurt sharkfish?

FWIW, I agree with you. The only potential caveat is if you believe that somehow "almost white" minorities (hispanic, indian, arabic) get more of a break than blacks. I can't say - I've said in the past that racism's alien to me, so I can't do the analysis.

But I do think that to some degree the portrayal of black and racism stereotypes in the media serve to perpetuate the problem, but that's not to say that racists/xenophobes don't do their own work keeping the man on top, either.

So I guess one big question - if all the media started portraying blacks as a 20% distribution across the board (CEO's, detectives, elected officials, etc) and dropped the racism/criminal/gang-banger overrepresentation, would it move things forward?

And what does "move things forward" mean? I believe you've indicated in the past you don't seek integration (please correct me if I'm misremembering). So - equal treatment even though we don't all live together?

Such a thorny issue...

I'm just reading John Simpson at the moment ("Strange Places, Questionable People" -- very good read by the way), and he observes that it was the rise of the middle class blacks in South Africa that eventually led to the dismantling of apartheid. When the blacks became such an important part of society that the country couldn't run without them, it became impossible to hold them down any more.

I'm still waiting to see how we're all going to look like in 2000 years...

As long as we don't look Mexican, I'm cool with it. Flat asses and wide backs, no taller than 5'6", would be awful.

I think it's pretty obvious that we'll all look like Michael Jackson...

I have yet to meet/see a single Mexican woman with a flat ass and a wide back.

Wait a few years.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but the Mexican women I've seen/met were of varying ages.

When society keeps on developing towards a situation without strong selection, there is no reason why ugly features would disappear.

So when disease and poverty will be reduced further - by lowering birthrates - and mobility will remain high, we will get a mixed race with a very wide spectrum of features.

The importance of skin colour disappears with good food, cloths and shelter, so that will blend towards a light brown. Eye and hair color will remain differentiated by partner selection, although dark brown will become even more general. And the full variety nose shapes, ass shapes etc will probably remain.

Average length will increase considerably, but that is a feeding issue. I think that the extreme compactness of cold-weather people and extreme skinnyness of hot steppe people will give way to more avere proportion, but still with considerable variation.

I think we all look Ethopian. Bright eyes, light skin.

"And the full variety nose shapes, ass shapes etc will probably remain."

Cool. But no flat asses. Please.

We could have a bunch of ass-challenged Hank Hills, fer chrissakes! Can't have that.

Parnell obviously lacks a sense of humor about this. Maybe Parnell has a flat ass?

Or maybe I should see if I can get legislation passed to make us flat-assed folks a protected group?

Maybe I should also start a civil rights group for flat-assed people. I could it the "National Association for the Advancement of Flat-Assed People" (NAAFAP).

May I suggest the more PC "gluteally challenged"?

A lot of Mexican women do have flat asses and wide backs. Going further south, many Brazillian women don't, I think because they have more of the right sorts of black and spanish genes.

It's true there is a lot of racism against blacks.

But its also true that a lot of the problems in the black community are due to black defeatism. This is seen in some other minority communities as well. I think it is a form of learned helplessness.

Man, why all you talking about Mexicans and blacks?!

Shit, we should talk about sex, drugs and rock 'n roll, man! Know what I mean?

Oh yeah, one more thing: Red States Rule! Hoo-ah!
