FreakyLet's say I live in Sunnyville. I have started to notice when browsing that various ads on random web pages say things like "Find XYZ in Sunnyville". Now, how is that happening?
Makes sense I suppose, given that my ISP is in Sunnyville and I'm actually in the next town over.
You know what's even freakier? Getting an email from a guy on hotmail with the ad:
HOTEL METRO New York City's best moderately priced hotel in midtown Manhattan http://www.hotelmetronyc.com/index.asp on the bottom. I guess they knew the IP address of who he was replying to? Then again, why would I need to stay in a NYC hotel? *sigh* how can we ever hope to fight spam when our legitimate email has ads in it. |
