Why do these 4 elements make up most of living things?

Oxygen, Carbon, Hydrogen, and Nitrogen.

Oxygen+Hydrogen = water, which has many special properties that make life possible

Carbon - its 4-bond tetrahedron properties make complex organic molecules possible

Nitrogen - its 3-bond properties are valuable

H is common (leftover protons from the Big Bang)

CNO are common in many types of supernovae.
