I like it. Steve Carell is perfect. It's not the UK Office - it's different, but if I wanted to see the UK Office, I'd throw the DVD in. :)

Philo NBC had several episodes back to back last night. Steve is great in this role, to the point he makes me uncomfortable.
Glad to hear it is coming back. Another thing I picked up in an episode last night, in Steve's office there was an Austin Lounge Lizards CD on his bookshelf.
They are a Satirical Bluegrass band that have been around for a long time. I was really surprised to see that, wondering if it was a random prop, or a very subtle plug. I doubt the latter because you couldn't make out the name, but it was clearly 'Never an Adult Moment.' Unsubtle plug: http://www.austinloungelizards.com/music.html Steve Carrell was on the Daily Show a couple nights ago, promoting his new movie. The first three minutes of the interview were, literally, him and John Stewart silently sitting at the desk, nervously fidgeting and sipping coffee and starting-to-say-something-and-then-stopping. Hilarious.
It does make you cringe in a different way.
Try and find Extras somewhere more shades of viewer embarrassment. i like carrell a lot more on the daily show, especially the fruit guy bit. its quite possible that the daily show could become the new launchpad for future comedic stars...
carrell plays oddballs so perfectly and with such variety it seems every new character is a completely unique creation. He's also an excellent singer. I saw him months ago on the Tonight Show, and he was telling a story about some woman who couldn't sing. He sang whatever song it was (just a few bars) perfectly, and then sang them out of pitch, which is very hard to do. I was impressed.
I liked the first episode of Extras, but not the others I've seen... maybe it's funnier to me when the guy who makes everyone uncomfortable is in a position of power, as there are limited ways people are willing to fight back. Whereas with some movie-set extra, he's just going from set to set and doesn't build that dysfunctional relationship.
But maybe I just misunderstand... Oh, that's wonderful. Yet another time-slot of television I don't have to watch -- and wouldn't like if I did watch it. More time for programming!
