Ricola, but not the crappy ones.  The best flavor is "Honey-Lemon with Echinacea".

Don't cough. Learn to not cough when the urge happens. It's difficult, and you'll never achieve 100% effectiveness but it's possible to some extent.

I had lots of practice in my recent chest infection.

Coughing is beneficial. It clears crap from your lungs.  The only viable reason to not cough is when it interferes with sleeping.

If you are coughing stay home from work.

(Now what do you do when the cough continues for three weeks?)

Drink lot of water or Gatorade. Take lot of Vitamin C like "Airborne" supplement.

Airborne is homeopathic "medicine". The only benefit is the placebo effect. (Which is a real benefit, even if you know it is a placebo)

Recent research indicates high doses of vitamin c does nothing for colds or flu.

You don't seem to know what homeopathy is. None of their claims are about homeopathy at all.

Airborne is a vitamin and mineral supplement.

Once you have a cold vitamin C doesn't lessen its duration.

However, Zinc does reduce cold symptoms and the supplement includes zinc.

Anyway for a cough suppressant, your best bet is codeine. After codeine among pharmaceuticals dextromethorphan comes next as second  best.

But there's also a study comparing honey to dextromethorphan.

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/18056558

Honey wins.

Direct honey vs codeine studies have not been done yet.
